Oscars 2010: Young Hollywood Beauties

Gerard Butler on the red carpet at the 2010 Academy Awards

It’s a well-known fact by now that, the moment the awards season begins, Hollywood goes crazy. The Oscars are the culmination of said season and the entire world knows that this is not just about the winners, the losers and the movies, as fashion also plays an important role. At this year’s Academy Awards, the gentlemen came, smiled and conquered the hearts of fashion critics.

They say it’s not easy to be a star at the Oscars – or so the same stars would have us believe, always complaining how hard it is to pick the perfect outfit, the perfect hairstyle and the perfect accessories. They’re right. However, judging by some of the men who walked the red carpet, looking this good comes almost naturally – especially when some of them also came with the best and most lovable accessory on earth: their wife, partner, fiancé or even mother.

Oscars 2010: Young Hollywood Beauties

Cameron Diaz on the red carpet at the 2010 Academy Awards

Fashion critics say seasoned actresses like to play it safe on the red carpet, especially on such glamorous and important events like the Academy Awards. Comparatively, younger stars are more daring in their choices, which is not necessarily a bad thing – as this year’s edition of the Oscars undoubtedly proves.

The female representatives of younger Hollywood took the usual stroll on the red carpet last night and, from Cameron Diaz, who is always like a breath of fresh air at such events, to newcomers Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart, they all managed to get an A for effort and style. What’s more, they did so by combining vintage elements with new ones and choosing gowns that reflected their personalities, instead of just wearing what they were told would look good on them.
